My name is Alice Liu. I graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts of China in graphic design and studied fashion design at the Parsons School of Design. I have worked as a UI designer, fashion buyer and fashion designer. Now, I am a web design and new media graduate student at the Academy Art of University in San Francisco.

Pink is a powerful color to people, it protect people for whole life. My inspiration is from afterbirth. In the phrase “birthday suit” does not mean “naked, it supposes to be the first cloth of human - after birth. The afterbirth wrapped and protects everyone of use before we were born. This pink “clothes” is more like a protection to us. When we are experiencing aging and diseases, our cells are also suffering.

As a result, their colors will gradually turn into dark pink from dead bodies. As a matter of fact, they are “pink” too. Therefore, the color “pink” accompanies us in our entire life and shows itself in birth, aging, disease and death in our life progress. As a consequence, clothes that look like mothers’ wombs will give people the first warmest protection.

My second design collection was inspired by the “The Metamorphosis”. The strong is a symbol for how people can lose their essence – what makes them truly them –when living in a society that demands heavy workloads and conformity.

In my designs, this comes through in the sections of clothing that appear like mutations –where new forms, like the part of an insect that emerge during the shedding of skin, erupt from the well –fitted pieces I have created. These mutations represent a human losing their human nature. The pieces symbolize a human going through metamorphosis.

The third collection - Cow tunnels , and there are secrets of Cow tunnel in Chelsea, NewYork. Chelsea is a neighborhood in the western part of Manhattan in New York City. It is famous for arts and history. In “Cow Tunnels-99% Invisible”, it describes that cow tunnels were built in Manhattan, which was used to move the cows from New Jersey to Manhattan, and to make sure the fresh meal.

Based on the history of cow tunnels, I thought about how the tunnels evoke danger, cruelty and human desire when cows were slaughtered, and their flesh and skin were torn apart in the underground, and live things converted to meat for human consumption. Thus, I wanted to let people know what was happening in the cow tunnel and convey an experience of this into my design collection.
